The Physics of Carbon Nanotube Devices

October 27, 2008

There is no hotter topic in nanotechnology right now than carbon nanotubes.  These amazing materials are being developed for an amazingly wide variety of applications and William Andrew is happy to announce the publication of The Physics of Carbon Nanotube Devices, which delves deeply into the foundation of carbon nanotubes.  It discusses the essential aspects for developing the technology, with ample coverage of the physics that govern the working principles of nanotubes.

Handbook of Plastics Joining, 2nd Edition

August 28, 2008

Plastics Design Library, an imprint of William Andrew, is proud to announce the publication of the second edition of the seminal Handbook of Plastics Joining.  Joining experts from The Welding Institute have significantly revised the information and included new technologies such as flash free welding and friction stir welding.  The data on the joining of specific plastic materials has been updated to include the vast amount of information available over the last ten years.

Fabrication and Design of Resonant Microdevices

August 28, 2008

The newest book in the Micro & Nano Technologies (MNT) series, Fabrication and Design of Resonant Microdeviceshas just been released. Written by Behraad Bahreyni (Simon Fraser University, British Columbia), this is an introduction to the issues surrounding the creation and application of micromachined resonant devices.  These devices are found in microsensors (mass, strain, chemical, pressure), are used for signal processing and also for active and passive temperature compensation.  Our sincerest thanks and congratulations to Dr. Bahreyni for this wonderful addition to the MNT Series.

William Andrew authors contribute to HBA

August 8, 2008

The Health & Beauty America (HBA) show is fast approaching, and William Andrew authors, editors, and chapter contributors are playing a major role in the technical workshops through HBA University during the show.  The Global Regulatory Issues for the Cosmetics Industry, 2nd Edition (edited by Karl Lintner) is based on the 2007 HBA Regulatory Summit which is organized by Meyer Rosen, editor of the Delivery Systems Handbook for Personal Care and Cosmetic Products.  The 2008 Summit is on September 10 and is an all day session with multiple speakers on the regulatory issues all cosmetics companies face.  The editor of the Skin Aging Handbook, Nava Dayan, is conducting a Skin Absorption Workshop at HBA on September 11 from 9:00 AM to 12:30 PM.  And, Gurpreet Ahluwalia, editor of Cosmetic Applications of Laser & Light Based Systems will be presenting a workshop entitled Laser & Light Systems for Skin Care (see session T-18).  Good luck to all!

Our Best Book Gets Better

August 7, 2008

If you look at units sold, one book in the William Andrew catalog far outstrips all the rest…and we’ve just published a new edition.  The Engineering Documentation Control Handbook is the best-selling book in its subject area on Amazon, B&N, and with all the wholesalers as well. The latest edition improves upon one of the best blueprints for efficient Engineering Documentation Control and Confiiguration Management and continues to provide a significant company strategy for managers, project leaders, chief engineers and others.

Adhesives Technology Handbook Now Available

August 7, 2008

The second edition of the Adhesives Technology Handbook, edited by our good friend and frequent author Sina Ebnesajjad has just become available.  This is a simple and straightforward guide to all that is required to successfully bond different materials.  It focuses on the end-user/ practitioner of adhesion technology.  The book covers most substrates, including plastics, metals, elastomers and ceramics and covers the materials and techniques used to bond them together.

Thermophysical Properties of Chemicals and Hydrocarbons

June 30, 2008

Carl Yaws is one of the most prolific authors of references and handbooks on the properties of chemicals and has published with giants like McGraw-Hil and Elsevier.  However, his latest book is published by William Andrew and proves to be a best seller in our Industrial Chemicals subject area.

Thermophysical Properties of Chemicals and Hydrocarbons is the most comprehensive collection of data on this topic ever compiled.  It is an essential volume for any chemist or chemical engineer’s library — as Yaws has amassed over 7,800 organic and inorganic chemicals, and hydrocarbons. Spanning gases, liquids and solids, and covering all critical properties (including acentric factor, density, enthalpy of vaporization, and surface tension), this volume represents more properties on more chemicals than any single work of its kind.

High Performance Polymers Published

May 21, 2008

This new book by Johannes Fink (author of Reactive Polymers) is a unique and fresh look at the creation, fabrication, and application of high performance polymers.  This book is important reading for anyone in the following industries:  automotive; aerospace; coatings; electrical and electronics; sensors; fuel cells; vacuum technology; gas separation; data storage; medical instruments and even cookware manufacturing. Anyone trying to discover and apply new high performance polymers in their designs, materials, and products should read this book.

Safety and Security Reviews for the Process Industries, 2nd Edition

May 15, 2008

This new book describes the application of major safety reviews used in the process industries and how they can be adapted for security vulnerability analyses.  It is the second edition of a best-selling title published originally under the Noyes imprint (0-8155-1353-4) that was entitled “Applications of HAZOP and What-If Safety Reviews to the Petroleum, Petrochemical and Chemical Industries.”  The author, Dennis Nolan, is well known in the process industries for his wealth of knowledge of fire protection engineering, risk engineering, loss prevention engineering, and system safety engineering.
